Tim Kitchen is a registered United States patent attorney with over 22 years of experience in the legal profession, serving both as in-house and outside counsel. As outside counsel, Tim has worked with law firms in the Silicon Valley and in Europe. As in-house counsel Tim worked at Guidant Corporation (now Abbott Laboratories), a multi-national medical device company, where he oversaw all aspects of intellectual property for its vascular intervention business. This included, developing and implementing strategies for building the company’s international patent portfolio and participating in the company’s investment and acquisition activities. He has also managed a large number of patent litigation matters in both the U.S. and Europe. Tim also has extensive experience in negotiating and drafting technology transfer and license agreements. Prior to joining Edell, Shapiro & Finnan, Tim worked with the law firm of Zea, Barlocci & Markvardsen in Barcelona, Spain where he counseled European and U.S. clients on U.S. and European law related maters.
Prior to law school, Tim served six years in the United States Navy Nuclear Power Program and worked as an engineer in the Advanced Technology and Development Division of Lockheed Missiles & Space Company. Tim also held a position in the engineering consulting firm of ABB Impell Corporation.
Tim received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of the Pacific, and a Juris Doctorate from Santa Clara University.
