Ryan Morton

Ryan Morton has been involved in the intellectual property field since 2011, joining the firm in 2018.  With an advanced degree in Electrical Engineering and related practical work experience, Ryan focuses his practice on patent portfolio management, counseling, freedom-to-operate analysis, invalidity analysis, and related matters.

Ryan specializes in a wide variety of electrical, computer, and communication technologies, including:

• mobile and network communication systems
• wireless communication protocol technologies
• IoT-related technologies
• computer hardware and software
• control and feedback systems
• sensors and instrumentation
• analog and digital signal processing
• medical devices
• semiconductor fabrication processes and equipment

Prior to joining Edell, Shapiro & Finnan, Ryan practiced patent law at Kenyon & Kenyon in Washington, D.C., as well as two patent boutique law firms in Texas, where he was involved in patent preparation and prosecution, as well as patent litigation matters.

Before embarking on a career in intellectual property, Ryan gained several years of practical engineering experience in the defense sector as a hardware and software engineer for L-3 Communications, now L-3Harris Technologies.  During his engineering career, Ryan was involved in the research, design, and development of innovative solutions involving embedded computing systems and wireless communications.

In his free time, Ryan enjoys spending time with his family, being involved with his children’s many activities, home improvement projects, and reading.
