Rich Hanna joined Edell, Shapiro & Finnan in 2026 and has practiced intellectual property law since 2008. Rich partners closely with clients to understand their technology and business objectives, developing practical, strategic intellectual property protection aligned with real-world goals. His practice focuses on the development of domestic and international IP portfolios and the integration of IP strategy with broader business initiatives.
Rich’s practice encompasses all aspects of IP portfolio development, including patent drafting and prosecution, portfolio strategy and construction, due diligence, licensing, counseling, freedom-to-operate, invalidity, and infringement analyses and opinions, as well as trademark and related matters. He has significant experience crafting protection strategies for companies of all sizes, from early-stage start-ups to established corporations. Rich has developed intellectual property portfolios for multiple start-ups, leading both to acquisitions and high-growth company launches.

Outside of the office, you can find Rich spending time with his family, playing and coaching hockey and baseball, cooking, and reading.
