Maria Pozo joined Edell, Shapiro & Finnan in 2026 after her finishing her PhD in biomedical engineering at George Washington University. As a Scientific Advisor, Maria practices patent prosecution in the life sciences and biotechnology fields with technical expertise spanning:

Prior to her career in patent law, Maria spent seven years as a researcher at the Cardiac Optogenetics and Optical Imaging Lab under Professor Emilia Entcheva. Maria’s doctoral work there centered on developing all-optical experimental platforms for cardiac epigenetics and electromechanics research. She has co-authored eight peer-reviewed scientific articles.

Outside of science and law, Maria spends her time exploring new recipes, learning about specialty coffee, eating whatever her husband has just freshly baked, and playing Rummikub with her family.
