Al Fasulo joined Edell, Shapiro & Finnan in 2013 and has been a Member of the firm since 2020.  Al has been practicing intellectual property law since 1997. With degrees in physics, computer science, and related practical work experience, Al focuses his practice on patent portfolio development, portfolio management, counseling, freedom-to-operate, invalidity, and infringement analysis and opinions, and related matters.

Prior to joining Edell, Shapiro & Finnan, Al practiced intellectual property law for over 16 years, initially at patent boutique firms, where he performed patent prosecution and devoted a substantial amount of time to infringement and validity opinion writing.  Al subsequently became in-house intellectual property (IP) counsel for a large university-affiliated research organization, where he rose to chief IP counsel.  In his in-house role, Al managed a sizeable patent prosecution docket, developed IP licensing strategies, and advised clients in IP in government contracts, including FAR/DFARS IP clauses.

Before embarking on a career in intellectual property, Al gained 10 years of experience in the defense sector as an electrical engineer for Westinghouse Electric Corporation, now Northrop Grumman Corporation.  While employed at Westinghouse, he worked in areas encompassing signal processing, and digital, analog, software, and system design in communications, radar, and electronic countermeasure systems.  Al is an inventor on several U.S. patents.

In his free time, Al enjoys spending time with his family, swimming, reading, and traveling.
